After more than a decade in the Echuca Moama community, Committee for Echuca Moama (C4EM) has left its mark.
C4EM is a member-based, incorporated association which advocates for and supports initiatives that will make an enduring and positive contribution to Echuca Moama’s economic prosperity, social well-being, cultural cohesion and environmental landscape.
It was formed in 2011. Dean Oberin was a founding board member and continues on the board today.
‘When we began, I don’t think we had any idea just how important an organisation like C4EM was going to be to our community,’ he said.
‘Our politically independent stance means we can collaborate with all levels of government which has helped advocate for projects such as the redevelopment of Echuca hospital, the second Murray River crossing and the upgrades to the railway line between Echuca and Bendigo.’
C4EM also had a hand in the transition of the running of the Port of Echuca from Campaspe Shire Council to the Campaspe Port Enterprise.
‘Our latest achievement is the establishment of a Workforce, Training, Education and Leadership Working Group, last week’s launch of the Community Connection attraction and retention promotional film and, of course, we are particularly excited to offer our services in the tourism sector since the dissolution of Echuca Moama and District Tourism Association.’
‘We have been working hard on our Safer Towns CCTV project too, which will see the installation of cameras in the central business district.’
Other projects C4EM continues to advocate for include the Bridge Arts Project, the Loco Shed redevelopment, cross-border issues and the Murray Darling Basin Plan.
‘The beauty of C4EM is that because we are member-based, anyone who joins has the capacity to help shape the future direction of Echuca Moama,’ Dean said.
C4EM is hosting an information evening aboard the PS Hero on Thursday, October 24 from 6pm, which will include finger food and drinks.
‘With almost 30 members and a diverse group of skills and community-based board members the future of C4EM is strong, however this opportunity to meet the current board, understand the benefits of being a member while networking with a group of like-minded business and community leaders is not to be missed,’ Dean said.
